2003 Newsletter 02
Welcome to the latest 10ticks newsletter. There's even more to do on the site!!
Private Tuition Adverts
After many requests from Teachers and Parents we have launched a completely
FREE adverts page for Private Tutors and Parents. Look for Tutors who have
posted adverts or advertise for a Tutor. It doesn’t have to be
mathematics tuition!
If you can't find a Tutor on the site then place an advert. We have thousands
of registered Teachers who visit the website regularly. There is a flexible
adverts program that is controlled by you from your User Area. You can edit or
switch off your advert at any time and you decide how to be contacted. Your
advert will appear in three different directories, one for Subject, one for
County and one for LEA. This is for searching convenience. You can appear in
more than one of any of the categories. Your advert will appear in the Teacher
Area of the website. To post an advert you need to be logged into the website.
Read our FAQ's for more details, but always thoroughly check the credentials of
any Tutor you employ whether from our adverts or other sources.
As with any website you make it successful. We don’t often ask for anything,
but please could you tell friends and colleagues about this new
area to see if they would like to take advantage of this FREE service.

Research a School
We have added a new section in the Parent Area, Research a School. This area
will give you all the links you need to thoroughly research a school in the UK.
Help Section
The level 5 Helps in the Student area are almost complete. Have you tried one?
Login and then attempt the questions from the Help. You can view all your
results in your User area. These results in the User area can help you
diagnostically asses the ability of your child helping you build a remedial
programme. Simply let them work on the helps over a period of time and then by
looking at percentage scores find the weakest topics and spend time
concentrating on these.

Statistics Coursework/Code Breakers
There is a brilliant new page in the Student Area called Code Breakers. Here we
have many different ways of setting up codes and e-mailing them to friends.
What was the primary tool to break codes? Frequency Analysis! This
section has two important analysis tools, frequency analysis of letters in a
text and frequency analysis of the number of letters per word in a text.
This will be of great benefit to your child if they are attempting Statistics
Coursework. Find any text on the internet and copy and paste into the box. We
have set it up so you can print the plain text and a graph of the analysis for
coursework records. This should save students a huge amount of time changing
the raw data into an ordered set of data ready for further detailed analysis.
Here are some ideas for using this tool with coursework.
Scrabble – is the scoring system fair?
Computer Keyboard – are the keys laid out in the correct position?
Use the Times website and the Sun website. Copy and paste articles from each
and complete both sets of analyses. What do you notice?
Do different foreign languages use letters differently to English?
Does ‘Olde English’ differ from modern day English?
