Double Award for ex-teacher Ian
Former maths teacher Ian Fisher believes he has come up with an idea which
could save the education system millions of pounds.
He gave up his job at Little Lever High School Last year to launch Fisher
Educational Ltd, an e-publisher that operates exclusively through the internet
as 10ticks.co.uk.
His experience in the classroom - he was a maths teacher for 15 years-
convinced him there were significant savings to be made in schools if they used
photocopiable maths worksheets instead of textbooks.
Mr Fisher, who lives in Heaton, was delighted to win TWO awards - New Small
business of the year and runner up to dabs.com in the success Through
e-Business section.
Leading
He plans to establish his company as a leading educational e-publisher.
In his submission to the judges Mr Fisher said: 'Teachers have lost all
confidence in a textbook that will deliver the curriculum for them as they are
instantly outdated by new curriculum changes.
'This, coupled with the high cost of textbooks, has meant teachers are looking
elsewhere for resources.'
There are plans for selling a CD-Rom to parents and for a subscription-based
online help, answer and games site.
Mr Fisher believes the company has the potential to go 'global'. His wife Lynne
is the company secretary.
He said: 'I only came here for a quiet dinner- but to win two awards is
unbelievable.
'Half the schools in Bolton are already using my maths material. As are 130 000
school pupils throughout the UK.
'To win both awards is just wonderful, especially since I was up against such
tough competition'
